Episode Summary:

We spent the first couple of episodes talking about the types of instructional designers. I’m being intentional about how I define these roles vs. job titles vs. disciplines, so you have a better grasp on things when you venture out into your job search. Let’s go one step further, into definitions before moving on. Let’s talk about the differences and similarities between the roles of Instructional Designers and eLearning developers.

In this episode, I discuss...

  • “... these terms are often heard in corporate organizations and other L&D spaces, and they’re used interchangeably. But actual L&D professionals will tell you that an Instructional Designer and an eLearning developer/designer are not the same thing” (01:38)

  • Simply put - e-learning is a DELIVERY TYPE. Instructional Design is a PROCESS(02:13)

  • Some of you make it abundantly clear that you prefer front-end analysis and instructional design over e-learning development...and I wish I could tell you that’s fine...that you don’t need to know much about the technology(05:27)

List of resources mentioned in episode (7:33):
